A Car in Brooklyn?

Crazy right? But it has been determined that it is a godsend! With the type of work that I do, visiting patients in their homes, it's just not feasible to use mass transit to get to everyone in a timely manner. When I went to Austin earlier in the month, the idea was to get my piece of crap car tuned up and have it shipped via a car transporter to Brooklyn. The more I talked about it with my parents, the more we realized that my car was not the best vehicle to have in Brooklyn. So I struck a deal with my mom: I would take over the payments of her 2002 Ford Focus, give her my piece of crap car, which she could sell or trade-in and she could buy a new car.

For some reason, the logic worked and I had my cute little car shipped to Brooklyn a couple days after I left Austin. Five days later it arrived in Brooklyn, brought to my office. I know what you're thinking - what's the point of having a car in Brooklyn? What about parking, and traffic, etc.? Well, our street is very easy to park on, my office has a parking lot when I'm there during work hours and most of my patients have lots of free parking on their streets.

Not to mention that I get reimbursed for mileage and my insurance and car payments are still in Texas because the car is being financed in Texas and because I am still a legal resident of Texas.

And the best part of having a car? Being able to do REAL grocery shopping, even Costco shopping, being able to drive to faraway shopping places and most of all...Being able to take weekend trips outside of NYC without renting a car!

So here's my little red rocket! She's so easy to park!!!
